    Liza Stark

BACKGROUND: My way back background is in history and Russian Studies, but following undergrad I worked for an international ed nonprofit running in and afterschool programs for k-12 students in a bunch of schools all over NYC. I became really interested in using games for learning which is why I came to MFADT, then found soft circuits and physical computing which subsequently turned into an obsession. Currently I am running a few afterschool programs with elementary, middle, and high school students focused on soft circuits, everyday objects, and physical computing. For my thesis I am developed a toolkit using alternative/softer materials for students to explore electrical and basic computational concepts. Essentially paper boxes that talk to each other.

CLASS?: I am in this class to learn more about wireless communication and make fun things.

My name is Kj Barr. I am from the Bay Area. This is my first year in DT. My favorite toy growing up was teddy teddy roxpin

This toy came with a book. I was able to place a small tape into the bum of the teddy bear and its mouth would move and he would read to me.

Background: I have a BA in Film Studies and Media Studies. I took this class because I think it could help me in my thesis process. I am currently working on making toys/objects that generate energy when they are in use. This energy will be harnessed to later charge mobile devices.

About me, my skills, and intention of taking Wireless Toys:

My name is Jae Yong Jordan Lee. I am from South Korea. This is my third year in Parsons’ Design and Technology undergraduate program. Most likely, I have my experience in Motion Graphics with narrative approach; and for now, I am changing my gear towards to study about User Experience Design that is based on HCI, Human Computer Interaction.

I have my skills in video editing through Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and After Effect. Furthermore, I have my skills in integrating 2D and 3D design realm to a film. I also have an experience in Autodesk Maya, MAXON Cinema 4D, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. As I have studied in Parsons for past three years, I had chances to learn about action script 3.0 and JAVA. However, while I was taking the courses related to programming, I found myself that I have no talents in programming but I do have some talents in planning and managing UX design related projects. For example, In terms of UX Design, I would like to study about UX design that is based on HCI, Human Computer Interaction.

Intention to take this class, Wireless Toys

As I have mentioned in above information, there were many times for me to take classes that were related to coding, but I was so discouraged from the fact that Iwas not able to follow up with the instructor’s lecture of arduino and processing. Even I had a motivation to take and wanted to follow up with the class, I was not able to follow with class materials.. and I was fallen into despair while I was taking the class. I wanted to overcome with this trauma of me being discouraged when I get to time when it’s coding for physical computing by taking Wireless Toys class.

    Favorite toys in my childhood:

    It’s caled Top-Blade.

Background: I have a background in graphic design and studio art with some programming thrown in.  Since coming to Parsons I’ve gotten involved in physical computing and soft circuits.

Why in Class: I’ve never made any objects that can communicate to the computer or each other wirelessly, so I’d like to explore how to do that.

I studied Film and Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I freelanced for a year after graduating, including working on the pilot for the ABC show “Revenge.”

I’m in this class because I’ve been interested in developing my knowledge of physical computing and programming and looking forward to workshopping ideas with other classmates.

    Architect & Real State Developer

After I graduated I joined my Dad’s architecture firm as partner, but I’ve been always very interested in all emergent technologies and enjoyed designing the most.

I am in this class because I’m very interested on learning programing and physical computing. Doing prototypes and actually getting to make my ideas tangible.
