Final Project: Interactive Chair
This is a cooperation with Soohyun Park.
The idea is to have a kaleidoscope with RGB light so users can get more various results. We made two prototypes. However, we did not have time to combine with the RGB LED light with the kaleidoscope. Please check the video at Soohyun’s post.
Prototype1
We tried a lot of different textures for reflection, like aluminized paper and mirror paper.
1. The idea comes from baby music bed bell. I realize babies are easily tried of the same music and toy. It will be better we can create our own music by changing different shapes of toys. I also want to connect Node.js so that we can control the music bell by our mobile devices.
2. This is a box for hanging keys and sending a message that “I’m home!” by lighting up to the other persons who lives with you. The way it works is similar to toaster and the recording light.
3. It is an installation in pubilc spaces, like subway, classrooms and parks. When an user sit, the load sensor will know how much weight he/ her is and then transit it to graphic projected behind the user.
Story
There is a boy lives in the small box. He is too shy to be face to face to anybody. He use the periscope to observe outside.

1) What did you find difficult about building you project?
Coding is definitely hard to me. Soohyun helped me a lot. However, I soon realized that putting all of stuffs together was the hardest thing I encountered. For example, how could I connect all the wires to the same ground.
2)What did you find easy about your project?
It was my first time to use laser cut. I learned a lot about it and will use it in the future. Compare to other part, I enjoyed designing and building my enclosure.
3)What surprise found you while building your project?
Basically, everything was surprise to me. Sawing is so difficult and impossible to be done by one person actually. I planed to finished it in one day but it took me double times to make this project.
1. Finger Says
My idea came from a popular game in Taiwan called “烏龜烏龜翹” (I can’t find the similar game in here). We put our hand (usually one hand) on the table and raise one finger at the same time. If you raise the same finger as the host did, you loose in this round. Instead of using buttons, I put LED lights and sensors on each finger to sense the movement. So, user will answer by their gesture.
2. Twister
I want to make a physical game: a live size twister (4 by4). There are 16 items and four color. Each item is separate from the blanket so user can customer the game by relocating all the items.
3. Simon Says
I want to create a real Simon. Hopefully, he can have facial expression.
Enclosure: cardboard box
Hi, I am Susan(Shu Yu) come from Taiwan. Very very nice to meet you. I graduated at 2011 and my background is communication and technology. I wrote student news, did film and animation and made craft before. Why I am here is because I bad at code but I want to get into physical interaction. I want to create some fun experience to make us more happy:)) So, making toy is one of things I really want to try in DT!
I can’t choose which one is my favorite toy when I was kid so I post three:
1) Tower of Hanoi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Hanoi
2) Tumble Tower http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jku__fiwbgM
3) Chinese checkers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_checkers
(Something wrong with the blog. I can’t upload the image)
