PComp 3rd Class Assignment
1) Read and Do Exercises in Programming Arduino: pages 51-66
2) Review Circuit 4 from SparkFun Book.
3) Assignment:
Using a Knob, make for 4 sound and light effects for your “pcomp toy”.One effect blinks leds in one direction along with sound, like a scale for example. Second goes in another direction. Third goes from inside to outside, along with different sounds. The forth is a “little didi” of lights and sounds of your making, (a little song and dance of sound and LEDs).Your Void Loop should only have if statements and function calls in it. No FOR loops in your void loop.[ Learn how to encapsulate code into a function.]* Extra CreditDocument 3 projects to Maker Faire. “Document” means: One photo or video, Name of Project, Name of Creator(s), and 2-3 sentences describing it, 2-3 sentences of why you like it. -

Gabor’s profile
My name is Gabor.
I’m an entrepreneur interested in exotic projects and new technologies.
Also, I graduated in business and in corporate law.I believe that, with the simplification of producing physical objects, there is an important shift going on in the startup community. Whereas, still recently, all the resources and funds were going towards virtual projects, today creators of physical objects have a real opportunity to set up compelling startups. I’m convinced we’re at the start of a period of endless possibilities for the makers of tangible objects.
I want to be part of this movement, hence my participation in this class.
My favorite childhood activity was aircraft-modeling. This was one of my favorite ones:

Susan Lin
Hi, I am Susan(Shu Yu) come from Taiwan. Very very nice to meet you. I graduated at 2011 and my background is communication and technology. I wrote student news, did film and animation and made craft before. Why I am here is because I bad at code but I want to get into physical interaction. I want to create some fun experience to make us more happy:)) So, making toy is one of things I really want to try in DT!
I can’t choose which one is my favorite toy when I was kid so I post three:
1) Tower of Hanoi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Hanoi
2) Tumble Tower http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jku__fiwbgM
3) Chinese checkers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_checkers(Something wrong with the blog. I can’t upload the image)

Soohyun
Hi, my name is Soohyun! I’m from S.Korea, nice to meet you. My background is computer science. When I was studying computer science, I only needed to consider about technological functions and precise skills for coding. However, I’m interested in humanity, and wanted to study more about the technology which is focus on interacting with people based on human-centered design approach. This is why I am here and also why I’m taking this class.
My favorite toy was lego!
I loved to make things with lego and make stories and play with them.

Also, puzzle; I loved to carefully find the right piece for the right place.

Hello! This is Xinhe!
Hello, this is Xinhe Feng. Nice to meet all of you in PComp! ~\(≧▽≦)/~
I come from China, and I have a background in graphic design. All the things about code and digital devices are new for me, but I am ready to take challenges since I am here for experiment. The key point for me is: to LEARN and HAVE FUN!
[Favourite Childhood Toy]
That was a set of small color blocks which you can insert them into holes to form pictures. I really got a creative sense since I was small ╮(╯▽╰)╭

Hi all,
My name’s Laurie; it’s technically Lauren, but not even my parents have ever called me that. I’m a sophomore/junior/transfer currently doing my undergrad in DT. I come from Montreal, where our education system is different than here and the rest of Canada, hence the “sophomore/junior/transfer” situation and why my code never runs when I write “colour.”
I’m in this class because I like building and creating things three dimensionally. It’s a nice change from work that’s solely on screen, and I very much enjoy figuring things out in code as well.
My favourite childhood toy was probably one of these. I had them in pink and orange, and I think green. I had a pretty vivid imagination, I guess… Googly Eyes

My name is Gabriel. I am a visual designer interested in data visualization and interaction design. I have worked with web, but for the most part of my career so far, I worked for magazines. My website: http://gianordoli.com/
I took some Arduino classes before and I had a hard time coming up with ideas for physical projects. I think I am still stuck in a 2D way of thinking, that’s why I am taking this class.
My favorite toy from childhood is this puppet/monster: http://www.trash80s.com.br/2009/12/ta-lembrado-bogs-da-estrela/
There were 2 versions of them: the small one does nothing, it’s a regular hand puppet. The big one moves its eyes if you press a button from its inside. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLQI5d_lymQP.S.: there is a problem with the picture upload in the blog.

Bio Tingshan Gou
Hello, round pegs&square holes,
It’s really nice to meet you, probably again. It’s embarrassing to mention my computer science background, because my coding skill just sucks as my design skill does. Somebody may ask: then why did you add one more unfamiliar area to burden yourself? I’d say: That’s why I’m here! I believe working on three nightmare areas at the same time will lead to an unexpected result! Hopefully it is a good one… There is another reason: Carla and Ricardo, my instructors during Bootcamp, said Yury is awesome!!! with their eyes shining stars.
So here I am.
Since I can’t upload the image, here is the link with my childhood toy included:

I loved it! Lots of it! I loved to rearrange them and made them fight with each other by tearing them apart. See? I had a gift to be a tinker since I was born!

I’m from China. Studied journalism before I came to Parsons. The reason why I’m here in this class is because I want to learn something new as always.
My favorite toys in childhood are probably building sets, Lego sort of things.

Intro – Physical Computing 1 Fall 2013
Hello! My name is Alec McClure and I hail from the “great state of Texas”, although I’ve been living in NYC for 4 years now. My background is mostly in photography and demographics analysis. My website is http://www.alecmcclure.com
I’ve always loved tinkering with electronics and taking things apart, so I thought this class would be fun and rewarding. I experimented a little with Arduino and Raspberry Pi this past Summer and enjoyed it.
My favorite childhood toy was undoubtedly LEGOS! The creative possibilities seemed endless (or limited only by your parents’ bank account).

myBio
Hi friends,
I am Evander. I started DT this year. I live in Bushwick (it’s only the coolest hood in NYC). I enrolled in pComp because I want my locker to have interior LED lights that turn on when you open the door. I have a background in classics and fine art.
Here’s my portfolio: http://cudgelfish.com/ebportfolio/
My favorite toy growing up was the Dino-Riders animatronic t-rex (the appeal should be obvious)
